OMG I am so freaking excited!!!! OK, OK, so I have 4 copies on pre-order (including 1 from LB to be autographed!) for myself..... AND now a few more ordered to gift to friends and family. I absolutely adore this evolution in your writing style I've noticed, beginning with the pieces here on Substack and now, it seems, in longer form with this new book. I know I express a lot how excited I am, etc. but I want you to know it's legit and I always want to support you and your work because I feel, quite frankly, that you're one of the most important voices of our generation (Gen X). Thank you for your beautiful work. ❤️

Just got notified from Left Banks books that my copy is being shipped. I urge others to buy an autographed copy from this local bookseller.

I wish you were coming to Toronto. Just so you know I, like many Canadians have stopped buying American products. I am making an exception for your books. With zero regrets. Stay safe.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing it. I did preorder mine today. You have a beautiful way to write. I hope you never give up writing. I bought two copies of the conspiracy theories and sent one to my friend in Texas. We haven't share her thoughts yet but we will soon. Take care beautiful lady.

Love it all. Can’t wait for my copy to arrive. I still remember my family’s trip back east from LA on 66 in our own road couch, a 1953 Buick Roadmaster with that angry looking front end grill, headlights and Buick badge. Let’s give a little credit to Bobby Troup, LA-based jazz musician and actor, who wrote “Route 66”. For a more jazzy version: https://youtu.be/kLUYf6cekMA?si=knSI5aFmbcmroL2E

So thrilled to have nominated this book for our Midwest Book Club organized out of Columbus Ohio. We’re midwesterners but now we have members from Florida, Maryland, West Virginia and California. We really came together during the pandemic lockdown and our monthly meetings were an oasis for us.

We now meet hybrid, some on zoom and between 15 to 25 in person in Upper Arlington Columbus Ohio. Most of us are members of an umbrella group that organizes civic action in Central Ohio, The Upper Arlington Progressives Action group or UAPA. This umbrella group can be found on Facebook and the book club splintered off from there.

May 28th 2025 Wednesday we will be discussing “The Last American Road Trip”.

I nominated this book back at the end of March and in April the votes were tallied. Sarah’s book won out against 6 other books that were nominated.

Interestingly and coincidentally the home we meet at in person in Columbus has a road trip connection. Joann and Jim P. besides their home in Columbus, own and operate a bed and breakfast near Santa Fe New Mexico. So, they take about four road trips a year there.

I recall asking Jim about stops along the way to New Mexico.

He told me he was going to stop along the way at a hardware store to buy some paint as he needed to paint a fence when he arrived in New Mexico. I hope to tease out some road trip stories from our members and get everyone’s vibes about so many of Sarah’s family stops.

I could not help but compare Sarah’s parenting style to my Mom when we traveled when I was a boy. It will take me some more time to sort through and process so many memories not as exciting as Sarah’s.

I’ve put in a request for your book at the amazingly wonderful Red Fern Booksellers here in Salina, KS. I’m sure they’d love to host a reading!

I've just ordered my copy. I can't wait to read it, Having read They Knew and Hiding in Plain Sight. Your insight into the systemic rot in the US is second to none. I'm from the UK, which has another rotten system. Our current government seems determined to turn us into the Temu US.

Received my signed copy from Left Bank today. Two words handwritten, and yet it means more than I expected.

I began reading, then slowed down, realizing I don’t want it to be over. No one writes like you.
