This is quite a day for me! I'm actually going to be able to see you in Seattle!! I had just finished making some reservations for my kid and myself, when this popped up in my email!
It isn't every day you get to meet your favorite living writer.
You sure know how to sound like one, MsWong. But still, how did you know that's what we imagined? Is it the stereotype? None the less, your wit is beautiful.
That would be great for me because I could combine a visit with my daughters with actually meeting Sarah in person! If she doesn't add an Atlanta appearance I'm going to start lobbying for her to visit Charlottesville, VA.
As a minority, the open road never appealed to me. All that Kerouac bullshit bothered me because as a non white person in America I couldn't relate to it. This idea of America as a wide open free country where you could go and do anything you want was painfully white. When I look at maps I only see a history of destruction and hate. It was horrible growing up in an area with such beautiful scenery and places to go outdoors. When I went to festivals or other "fun" outdoor events I would inevitably run into racists or assholes acting like Hunter S. Thompson and getting away with it because they were white. I never understood that "on the road" or dylan or live life to the fullest mentality as a non white person in America. It was always this way in my mind; it never changed to me.
I agree and discuss that blatantly in the book, especially in the chapters on Route 66, which was romanticized as the freedom of the open road but in reality was a road of the Great Migration from the Jim Crow South, of sites of Native American genocide, of the subjugation of women, and much more. This is an honest book so while there are beautiful and fascinating things to see on these trips, I don't gloss over the tragedies or the unfairness -- which continue to the present day.
Thank you for not 'censoring' your own work to make it more mainstream, more commercial, more "universally acceptable" but sticking about the truth and to it - and writing about it in a way that a gazillion of us appreciate.
Carson City, NV perhaps??? (Reno better, oddly, as I believe it's more diverse in its demographics).
Congrats on your brave book tour, Sarah, and looking forward to that cozy, cold andsnowy night, bundled up to read!
I am so glad you did this. I remember you telling me the cost, with pictures, was great, before you decided. This will be an Opus. A culmination of the Trilogy. Can’t wait for the release. I ordered in Sept or Oct. Have no fear, your following will push the book. Enjoy the tour and be on the lookout for the next book. 💕
Hi Sarah - is there any chance of you coming to Australia ? We have a lot of Writers Festivals here & we desperately need your wisdom & warnings? Looking forward to reading your book & thank you 🙏
Best of luck (skill, really) and Take Good Care. You're not coming to Florida... and I don't blame you A Bit! In fact, we're moving soon, but not soon enough. 🤘🏼
What a lovely line-up of cities. I've been to all those cities except Austin. Texas turned mean and crazy before I made it to that much-loved BLUE Texan town. My city of Asheville went 73% for Democrats, Austin was 72%. So, I consider it a sister city. I bet you'll get a great crowd there!
Anyway, Asheville would welcome you! I wish you a wonderful book tour with much success. I've ordered a signed copy, and another from Amazon which I'll gift to a friend. Good luck, Sarah...stay safe!
Not coming East?? Just came from a bookstore event at Just Bookish, about a book Ripples of Hope about the structural poverty and racism in the Mississippi Delta. Bobby Kennedy and Daniel Shorr visited in 1968 and not much has changed. They were shocked at the hunger and starvation there. David Jones’ book is a contemporary study. David has passed away but I am so thankful that you are writing and revealing the same stark realties of American life. Hope to see you soon (and get an autograph).
Publisher arranges the trip and bookstores set the schedules! I go where I don't have to pay for anything. Sometimes I do book fests in the east -- let's see if in the Trump Two era I'm invited.
Congrats to the indefatigable Sarah K, hopefully you'll be able to squeeze in a stop in the KC area at some point down the road. I'll be watching for the 2 signed copies I ordered, one for me and one for my son for his birthday.
I’m going to contact some bookstores in Santa Fe and ABQ, to see if we can bring you back to The Land of Enchantment, since Plaza Negra y Plaza Blanca are part of the story.

Awww thank you! I'm looking forward to meeting you too!
I only got two tickets and another friend wants to come with us.
Are they very strict about that?

My roommates last name is Lee and she gets the same reaction, especially because she is very active on line =]
Woohoo! See you in Seattle at Elliott Bay Books!
+1!
Keep Georgia on your mind. Decatur and/or Atlanta. https://www.acappellabooks.com/news.php

I haven’t been there in a long while
They’re wonderful

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name...and I hope you come to the Twin Cities area sometime, too!
=] "it felt good to get out of the rain (reign?)
I am a Programming Manager for a public library, what is the best way contact you about a possible appearance?

Loved seeing you with Sexton. Great conversation.
Come to Boston please!
Can't wait to see you at the Commonwealth Club! Thank you for making the trip.
The "Horse with No Name" reference gave me goosebumps.
