When I wake up to thousands of people telling me I was right, I know that things have gone wrong.
I started this newsletter in October 2023. Since then, I’ve written about fifty articles on institutional complicity and the likelihood of Trump becoming president again. These are the ten articles most helpful in explaining this situation.
My books HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT and THEY KNEW are also helpful in grasping vital background about the US government and organized crime. I would get those two books now, before it is impossible to do so. I wish I were exaggerating about that, much as I wish I had been exaggerating about the accurate predictions and claims I made in the articles below.
The top ten articles to explain Election Night 2024:
1. “Behold, a Pale Horse Race”
2. “Servants of the Mafia State”
3. “Last Chance, USA”
4. “Birds of a Feather”
5. “The Aftermath People”
6. “Cheap Signals”
7. “Bad Weather”
8. “America’s Legal Soap Opera”
9. “Welcome to Boomland”
10. “Totem and Taboo”
There is more to read in the archive, including interviews and Q & As. There are also articles about “Beverly Hills, 90210”, the comfort of nature, and 1990 childhood memories, in case you’re not in the mood for nightmare politics.
I also wrote a memoir, THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP, to document everything I love about this country and why I fight for it.
I do my own writing, my own thinking, and my own photography. No AI, no lies, no newsletter charge. It’s all free. I don’t believe in paywalls in a time of peril.
But if you’d like to pay to support my work and keep it going, that would be helpful, as it ensures this newsletter stays open to all.
Thank you for reading — and stay strong. Know your values and follow them. As I wrote in 2016: “Do not accept brutality and cruelty as normal even if it is sanctioned. Protect the vulnerable and encourage the afraid. If you are brave, stand up for others. If you cannot be brave — and it is often hard to be brave — be kind.”

Sarah, I will always be eternally grateful for you refusing to lie about what the problems are that got us into this mess. The finger pointing over last night is so exasperating, but seeing your threads from 2021 on the institutional failures helps me feel sane in moments like this. I really hope we live to see better days at some point. Thank you!
You were right and like others, I had this overwhelming feeling of dread leading up to this but it still feels very heavy. Not so much that the institutions did not protect us but that our neighbors and fellow citizens chose this way. Today I feel neither brave nor kind.
